Our Providers

Kathryn Twenter, DO

Dr. Kathryn Twenter is a physician with Curana Health who specializes in internal medicine and geriatrics. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Saint Mary’s University and her Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of Health Sciences—College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City. She completed her internal medicine residency at UMKC in 2006, followed by a geriatric fellowship at the University of Kansas in 2007.

Dr. Twenter spent seven years working as a hospitalist at St. Luke’s East, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, and Menorah Medical Center before transitioning her focus to geriatrics. She now provides care for residents in long-term care, post-acute rehabilitation, assisted living, and independent living communities.

She has been a member of Curana Health’s medical team since 2013 and is a certified medical director. Outside of work, Dr. Twenter prioritizes family life and enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, canoeing, and snow skiing with her husband, children, and dog.

QuyChi Le, MD
(“Wee-Chee” Le)

QuyChi Le, MD, is a physician with Curana Health who is dedicated to serving underserved and senior populations. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, she immigrated to Kansas City, Missouri, with her family in 1991. She graduated as valedictorian from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. She later received her MD in 2011 after completing her clinical training through KU-Wichita.

Dr. Le’s clinical experience spans a wide range of care settings, including federally qualified health centers, free and low-cost clinics, correctional facilities, rural and Indian health clinics, and home-based care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she traveled extensively across Missouri to provide wound care in nursing homes, ensuring patients received consistent weekly treatment. Since 2023, she has also served as a medical director at a clinic in Joplin focused on chronic pain and illness.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Le enjoys reading, desserts, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. She is actively involved in her community and values time with her husband, stepchildren, extended family, and dog.

Teresa Taylor, DNP-BC

Teresa Taylor is a nurse practitioner with Curana Health who began her healthcare career in 2007, gaining experience across a variety of care settings. She earned her Doctor of Science in Nursing Practice in 2022 and her Master of Science in Nursing Practice in 2020 from the University of South Alabama, as well as her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas in 2007. She is board certified in Adult-Gerontology through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Teresa is dedicated to supporting the unique healthcare needs of older adults, with a focus on promoting independence and enhancing quality of life. Her approach emphasizes keeping patients healthy, active, and engaged through education, communication, and preventive care.

Outside of work, she is a proud mother of two daughters and enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr Both has been providing care in northwest Ohio for the past 30 years.

Cristele Tchokouani, PMHNP-BC

Cristele Tchokouani is a nurse practitioner with Curana Health who became a healthcare provider in 2024. She earned her Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) degree from Walden University in February 2024 and brings 10 years of experience as a registered nurse across hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, rehabilitation centers, and home care settings.

Cristele is passionate about supporting the mental health of older adults, driven by a deep respect for the wisdom that comes with age. She focuses on addressing challenges such as chronic illness, cognitive decline, and grief with compassion and evidence-based care to enhance quality of life.

Outside of work, she is a wife and mother of three boys and enjoys watching movies and traveling.

Derek Chao, MD

President and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Chao brings more than two decades of experience in managed care, clinical leadership, and healthcare transformation to Curana Health. Starting his medical career as a hospitalist and nephrologist in Southern California, Dr. Chao has held various leadership positions (including medical director and chief medical officer) within numerous healthcare organizations (including HealthCare Partners). Before coming to Curana, he served as chief executive officer of Optum Health’s western region, where he oversaw operations and care delivery across nine states. Dr. Chao’s expertise spans a range of healthcare models, from fee-for-service to value-based care across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans. His broad experience has honed his ability to lead both clinical and operational teams through the complexities of healthcare delivery models, and his professional insights are shaped not only by his clinical expertise, but also by personal experience (having witnessed firsthand the challenges his elderly parents faced in navigating the American healthcare system). At Curana Health, Dr. Chao leads efforts to empower the organization’s healthcare providers, optimize care delivery, and ensure clinicians have the tools and support needed to achieve exceptional outcomes for patients and operator partners alike.
