Our Providers

Dr. Stephanie Garcia, DO CMD

Stephanie Garcia, DO, CMD, is a Board Certified Family Physician and Geriatrician through The American Board of Family Medicine with Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine. Stephanie completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. She then attended medical school at The Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree in 2009. Dr. Garcia then completed a 3 year Family Medicine Residency at Research Medical Center, followed by a yearlong fellowship in Geriatrics at The University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Dr. Garcia’s main clinical practice has been Geriatrics; joining Kansas City Medicine Partners in 2014 where she practices in the geriatric clinic, post-acute, home, assisted living, hospice and long term care settings. She became a Certified Medical Director in 2018 with the American Medical Directors Association, Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine.

Stephanie is a Kansas City native and has two children, Lucas and Grace, with her husband Dan. They have a large extended family in the KC area that they love to spend time with. She enjoys running and has completed many full marathons hopes to run a marathon in all 50 states.

Janice Broyles, FNP-C

Janice Broyles is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner accredited through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She completed her second masters through St Luke’s College of Health Science. She completed her initial masters in Nursing Education at Ft Hays State University.
Her undergraduate studies were completed at MidAmerica Nazarene College. Through her college endevers, she has graduated with honors and was invited and joined Sigma Theta Tau International.

She has over 25 years experience in nursing. She started her nursing career in Critical care with a strong focus on Neurology. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the hospital setting. She is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and PM and R Academy. She is passionate about treating the aging population to ensure personalized health care with a focus on quality care along with quality of life.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, photography and spending time with her husband and two sons along with her chocolate cocker spaniel.

Derek Chao, MD

President and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Chao brings more than two decades of experience in managed care, clinical leadership, and healthcare transformation to Curana Health. Starting his medical career as a hospitalist and nephrologist in Southern California, Dr. Chao has held various leadership positions (including medical director and chief medical officer) within numerous healthcare organizations (including HealthCare Partners). Before coming to Curana, he served as chief executive officer of Optum Health’s western region, where he oversaw operations and care delivery across nine states. Dr. Chao’s expertise spans a range of healthcare models, from fee-for-service to value-based care across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans. His broad experience has honed his ability to lead both clinical and operational teams through the complexities of healthcare delivery models, and his professional insights are shaped not only by his clinical expertise, but also by personal experience (having witnessed firsthand the challenges his elderly parents faced in navigating the American healthcare system). At Curana Health, Dr. Chao leads efforts to empower the organization’s healthcare providers, optimize care delivery, and ensure clinicians have the tools and support needed to achieve exceptional outcomes for patients and operator partners alike.
